FramePlayer Privacy Policy
In short: FramePlayer has no accounts of its own, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. It does not send your videos, your library or anything about how you use it to us or anyone else. It only connects to the servers you add yourself, to the store you bought it from, and to the computer or phone you send videos from. On Meta Quest it uses your Meta user ID, through Meta, only to check that you own the app and its unlock.
Who we are
FramePlayer is made by yellkell (yellkell.com). Questions about this policy: yellkell@yellkell.com.
What stays on your headset
To work as a video player, FramePlayer keeps these on your headset only:
- your library: the videos it found, their thumbnails, where you stopped watching, favourites, ratings and per-video picture settings;
- your settings, including any PIN you set for locked folders;
- the network sources you add (addresses, and any user names and passwords they need);
- a log file for troubleshooting, which never leaves the headset unless you send it to us yourself.
You can clear your watch history and library in Settings › Library at any time. Uninstalling FramePlayer deletes all of it. Videos you copied to the headset stay in its storage until you delete them.
What connects to the network
- Sources you add. When you add a network share or server (SMB, DLNA, WebDAV) or a video feed, FramePlayer connects to it to list and play your videos, using the details you entered. We have no part in those connections.
- Wi-Fi upload and the remote. If you turn on Wi-Fi upload or the phone remote, FramePlayer runs a small web page on your headset that only devices on your local network can open, protected by a code shown in the headset. Files you send go straight to your headset.
- Updates on Steam Frame. The Steam Frame version can check GitHub for new versions of FramePlayer. GitHub sees that request like any web request (see GitHub's privacy statement). On Meta Quest, updates come from the Meta Horizon Store.
Data from your Meta account (Meta Quest)
On Meta Quest, FramePlayer uses two Meta Horizon platform features: User ID and In-app purchases. The data below is the only data about you that FramePlayer collects or processes on Meta Quest, and this is exactly what happens to it:
- User ID — the app-scoped ID Meta assigns to your account for FramePlayer.
Collected from: Meta, through the Meta Platform SDK, each time the app starts.
Used for: the entitlement check (asking Meta whether your account owns FramePlayer, so that only people who got it from the Meta Horizon Store can run it) and identifying your account to Meta for the purchase check below. Nothing else.
Stored: in memory only while the app runs. It is never written to the headset's storage.
Shared with: no one. It goes only back to Meta. We (yellkell) never receive it.
Kept for: as long as the app is running. It is gone when you close the app. - In-app purchases — which FramePlayer add-ons your account owns (the Passthrough videos unlock), and a purchase result when you buy one.
Collected from: Meta, through the Meta Platform SDK, when the app starts and after a purchase.
Used for: turning the unlock on, and opening Meta's own checkout if you choose to buy it. Nothing else.
Stored: in memory only while the app runs.
Shared with: no one. We receive aggregate sales reports from Meta, never your account or payment details.
Kept for: as long as the app is running.
FramePlayer does not request or use Meta's User profile (username, profile photo), User age group, Friends, or any other platform feature, so it never receives that data. It does not sell any of this data, use it for advertising, analytics or tracking, combine it with other data, or send it to us or to any third party.
Purchases
- Meta Quest. The Passthrough videos unlock is bought through the Meta Horizon Store. Meta handles the payment under Meta's Privacy Policy. FramePlayer asks Meta only whether you own the unlock, as described above, and keeps nothing about your purchase. We receive sales reports from Meta, not your payment details.
- Steam Frame. The unlock is bought at yellkell.com/unlock. Payment is handled by Stripe under Stripe's privacy policy. To let you restore the unlock on another headset, our server keeps a record of the purchase, including the email address you gave Stripe, and the unlock codes, each with the IP address that asked for it (to limit abuse). We use the email only to restore purchases and answer support requests about them.
Children
FramePlayer is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Deleting your data
- On your headset. Clear your watch history and library in Settings › Library, remove sources in Settings, or uninstall FramePlayer to delete everything it stored.
- Meta Quest. The User ID and purchase data described above exist only in the app's memory while it runs, so they are deleted automatically when you close the app, and nothing remains after you uninstall. We hold no copy. If you want that confirmed in writing, or want anything else deleted, use the request below.
- Ask us. To see or delete any data we hold about you, email yellkell@yellkell.com with the subject “FramePlayer data deletion request”. Say which version you use, and for Steam Frame the email address you gave Stripe. We reply within 30 days. For Meta Quest we keep no data about you, so we confirm that. For Steam Frame we delete your purchase record and unlock codes; after that the unlock can no longer be restored to a new headset.
- Data Meta holds. Your Meta account and Meta Horizon Store purchases are held by Meta; manage or delete them in your Meta account settings, under Meta's Privacy Policy.
